The mentor program taught me all of the things that fashion school left out.
Finding a pattern maker willing to work with a fashion start up is incredibly difficult and I knew about the mentoring program for a whole year before finally committing.....it is worth every single cent.
After completing the course, I was able to confidently design, manufacture and launch my own business.
It has been a really rocky road and I have faced quite a few disappointments in businesses who promised one thing but delivered another. I can say with absolute certainty that Sample Room is the most professional supplier I have dealt with to date.
Julia and her team really care about each designer and I have felt supported and confident in each process from design to pre production sample. The quality of the patterns all the way through to manufacturing is exemplary.

I found that there's a lot of roadblocks in the fashion industry, and it was just nice having someone who felt like a business partner to discuss the solutions and ideas, and just give a fresh perspective from someone who's been there and done that.
If you are doing it on your own, and you're creating your own label, and you have a dream in launching it, I would recommend investing in the mentoring, because I think if you're ready to dive in, connect with them, you'll connect with other businesses, and it really will help you get to that next step.
The feedback from my production has been so overwhelmingly positive. The cut, quality, fit- I've received so many personal messages. I've received reorders from customers, because they made such a great first impression.
I really do have the team at the sample room to thank for that, for their incredibly high quality products. You just you can feel the love that has gone into each piece. They look amazing. I'm so happy. I'm really grateful for this launch, and I definitely have them to thank for that. If you're thinking about doing it, chat to them. I really think you can do this too.

When they work on a project they are 100% focused, treating each project with the utmost care and respect.
I have and will continue to recommend them to fellow designers, a truly talented team.

The team at Sample Room have given me the support and guidance that I need to start my own label and manufacture garments here in Melbourne.
The ask me anything & expert calls are such invaluable resources, and they provide such invaluable information and networking opportunities.
I really feel confident now in launching my own brand. Nothing beats seeing your garments come from drawings into real samples, and that's the stage that I'm at, and I couldn't have done it without the support of sample room or the fashion label launch pad.

I had a dream to start a children’s swimwear label but with a background in PR I was drowning in an industry I knew very little about (and making plenty of costly mistakes along the way).
The lovely ladies at Sample Room helped make my dreams a reality and a year later we launched a beautiful/high quality/ecofriendly and ethical range.
I honestly couldn’t have done it without Sample Room. The support & guidance I received was priceless.
he fashion industry is fickle. It’s very hard to get a straight answer when starting out. Everyone is vague and to be honest, I’m pretty sure it’s because no one wants to take on a start-up label.
That’s where Sample Room saved the day! Finally, some transparency!
Before finding Sample Room we found that no one would commit to a deadline. Days (sometimes weeks) would pass before we heard back. Costing estimates simply weren’t given which makes budgeting impossible.

The Sample Room process really gave me everything I needed to launch and produce my products. It showed me how to navigate through the process and I think that in itself was a very valuable learning.
Now that I know what I know, there is no way I would have been able to navigate this industry without Sample Room.
Having all the components together also made things so much easier.
After staring with Sample Room, the sketch came to life and I was convinced that this was a unique idea- something that could do well. Something that people will want. The mentoring was instrumental in coming to that realisation.
The information and the sharing in the program were important to my brand getting to where I have.
If I had to navigate this on my own, I don’t think I would have got this far. I’m sure I would have made lots of mistakes.

I first discovered Sample Room through the True Cost workshop on the ECA website, and it completely opened my eyes to the value of supporting Australian manufacturing.
From there, joining the Launchpad felt like the perfect next step — and it’s been incredible.
Over the past three years, I’ve learned so much through the weekly Q&As, 90-day learning sessions, and monthly Get Stuff Done meetings.
The ongoing support from the entire Sample Room team has been invaluable.
They’ve guided me from having just an idea to actually designing, manufacturing, and launching my own line of clothing — something I once only dreamed about.
Coming from a background in energy work and personal training, I never imagined I’d create a clothing line. But with Julia’s mentorship and the Launchpad community, that dream became a reality.
I’m so grateful for the knowledge, encouragement, and care that went into every step of the journey.
If you have a dream, Sample Room will help you bring it to life. I can’t recommend them highly enough.”

New to the fashion industry, the Fashion Label Launch program was an essential investment for me.
Even now, I am still referring back to my program notes and course material.
It was lovely to meet other designers during the program - all with big dreams of a successful fashion label - it made the journey a little less lonely.
Moving into design and production was a big step for me, but the Sample Room was with me every step of the way.
From finalising my design, through to testing, pre-production and finally production, the team were a constant source of advice, support and never-ending patience!

I couldn’t believe how the team brought my vision to life and managed to recreate my activewear onepieces, I had dreamed about for so long.
Despite Being based 10000km away from Sample Room, the process has been running so smoothly over video call meetings.
Being new to the fashion industry, I was not sure where to start;
Everything just seemed so overwhelming initially.
Doing the Sampleroom mentorship program first, has been so helpful in guiding me though the whole process step by step.
Having a resource base in Sampleroom with such extensive knowledge of the fashion industry has been wonderful in connecting me, for example to the right fabric agent to sourcing the best fabric for my design. I’m looking forward excitedly to the rest of my journey to production.
If you're like me and wanting someone to hold your hand and take you through the journey to making your fashionwear line dreams come true, then the Sampleroom mentorship program is definitely the way to go to get started.

Working with the Sample Room team has been an incredible experience.
Their expertise across so many different design areas and their complete, end-to-end service made it possible to bring my vision to life.
Sample Room have been fantastic in helping me to develop my sportswear start up.
The Fashion Label Launchpad was perfect to build my knowledge, having come from a non fashion corporate marketing background.
The process of developing quite a technical range has been a dream.
Such a collaborative and proactive team to not only nail a brief but come up with new ideas and different ways to approach things.
I look forward to continuing our partnership for a long time.

There are a lot of moving parts throughout the journey of developing your product, so be prepared for quite a bit of back and forth in order to make those changes.
What I was impressed with (with Sample Room) was having the course in place to help manage your expectations from the start.
It's not easy or cheap starting your own label, but without Sample Room I would have spent more time and money trying to work it out myself.
Sample Room have introduced me to manufacturers who are not listed in Google, and point you in the right direction when sourcing fabric and trims.
I have been so grateful that they have been there every step of the way.
Without the mentor program and hand holding; pointing me in the right direction, and connecting me with people in the industry, I wouldn't have gotten this far.

There is so much doubt and uncertainty in starting a business especially in the very beginning when you're doing it alone.
The team has made me feel encouraged and supported every step of the way.
Being interstate did not cause any issues in the development process- with online fittings and clear communication on what I needed to do, it was so easy.
There have been many times when I was unsure about how to move forward with certain design issues and they have been instrumental in helping me decide.

When I contacted Sample Room, I was recommended an information session that opened my eyes to what was possible here.
The Fashion Label Launchpad gave me lot more structure especially about timing.
While you didn’t rush me, there were little nudges that pushed me. Milestones and meetings, which meant it was harder for me to procrastinate.
It was like having a mentor. Someone who could answer your questions, push you in the right direction and not allow you to waste your time.
[The program showed me] the real cost of developing a range.
Even with my experience overseas, I never really had the visibility- as you just kind of send a tech pack and the costs are rolled up into the production.
It was eye opening to have a breakdown of costs. You just think the style just appears and it get produced.
But of course, when you consider it for a moment, of course there are costs involved in development.
